S.T.E.M. Gingerbread bridges

Today we worked with Mrs. Williams class in a joint S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and math) project.  Our charge was to build a bridge that would help the gingerbread man (a Lego man) cross over the water.  All the groups were given the same amount of supplies.  They were given gumdrops, marshmallows, popsicle sticks, toothpicks, pipe cleaners, index cards, playdough, a ruler, scissors, cotton balls, and pom poms.

The only instructions were for them to build it across the water (aka blue paper) and it had to be at least 2 inches off the water.

Here is what the process looked like:

It was a great experience for all of us. We plan on doing another S.T.E.M. activity late next month.

Have a great Winter Break.

Grinch week

We had a great time this week learning about the Grinch.  Look and see what we did:

On Thursday we went to Grinch stations.  This station had us use a magnifying glass to find very small adjectives about the Grinch.

We either tossed 3 for a 3 addend number sentence or we took 1 away for a subtraction number sentence at this station.

 Sorting digraphs was fun too.

We also unscrambled sentences about the Grinch at this station.

Earlier in the week we made Grinch grime and experimented with candy canes.  If you would like the recipe on how to make Grinch grime, please let me know, I will be more than happy to share it with you.

Planet Day 2015

Today was an out of the world adventure.  We orbited around 8 different space stations.  Check out the pictures to see what we did.

Thank you to all who came and participated.
