The first month of school has past. Boy, did that go by fast, or was it just me?
The students are quickly learning the routines in class, our writing is becoming stronger and we just finished our first unit of writing. Narrative. Later this week I will send home their writing and you will see how their writing has progress from the beginning of school to now. We wrote and edited our favorite narrative and then shared it with Miss Gizelbach's class on Friday.
As the year continues we will continue to strengthen our writing and editing. This marking period in editing we are focusing on making sure that the first letter in the first word is capitalized. We have also identified common nouns and proper nouns.
In math, we just started our unit on place value. Place value is a super important skill for our Firsties to have as it lays the foundation for all other mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
In reading, your child will begin to take home their very own "just right" book nightly. It comes from their seat sack. Yes, reading this book is part of their homework. As your child learns new comprehension concepts with their reading I will inform you of them too so you can practice with them at home.
