Groundhog shadows

On Tuesday the groundhog not not see his shadow but we did in Dr. Mueller's class.  This STEM challenge was... Can you make a shadow for the groundhog.  The students worked with a partner to design their groundhog. Check out how we did.

Later in the week we got with our reading partners and used our talking speech bubble sticks to read our just right books.  Using the speech bubble talking sticks allows the reader slow down their reading to fully focus on what else is on the page not just the words on the page.  It also aids in comprehension of the story.

In science we had a mini research on the largest Arctic animal... the Polar Bear.  The students learned many facts about them, did a directed draw activity for our hallway bulletin board and also a polar bear writing fact sheet that we brought home. Check out our Polar Bear chalk drawings. I have said it before and I will say it again; we have some very talented artist in Room 10.

We also put our learning of opinions writing into a formal letter.  We learned how to write an effective beginning sentence followed by 3 reasons, and then a concluding sentence that made me so impressed we proudly displayed them outside our classroom for all to read.

Just a reminder, starting Tuesday your child can bring in their Valentine's Day cards.

Also the 100th day is coming.  Check out the last post to find directions for this special day in Dr. Mueller's class.
